Large game library
Current Gen or Next Gen
The Xbox 360 can play over 1,400 games (4,700 including indie titles).
The PS3 can play over 4,200 games.
The Xbox One and PS4 can play around 250 games (as of 2015), or 25 at launch (2013).
Backwards compatible
Current Gen or Next Gen
The Xbox 360 can play over 400 original Xbox games.
The PS3 can play over 2,000 PS2 games and 1,500 PS1 games.
The Xbox One and PS4 aren't natively backwards compatible.
Most Xbox 360 accessories won't work with the Xbox One.
Most PS3 accessories won't work with the PS4.
Optional Game Installs
Current Gen or Next Gen
The Xbox 360 and PS3 allow you to optionally install games for faster load times.
Xbox One and PS4 require games to be installed, often taking from 15-30 minutes before you can play a new title,
and using up valuable disk space. Downloadable titles can take up several days to download, using over 40 GB of bandwidth. Load times are not reduced.
Affordable
Current Gen or Next Gen
Keeping your old console costs $0.
A used Xbox 360 or PS3 costs around $150.
A new Xbox One or PS4 costs around $400 (or around $300 used).
Used Xbox 360 and PS3 games often retail for around $20.
New Xbox One and PS4 games are typically around $60.
Indie Support
Current Gen or Next Gen
Somewhat of a trick question, unless you're on Xbox.
Xbox One does not feature Indie games, while Xbox 360 features over 3,300 titles as of 2015.
PS3 and PS4 also feature several indie titles.
4K TV Support
Current Gen or Next Gen
Another trick question.
Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 all lack support for 4K output.
In addition, many Xbox One and PS4 titles don't even output native 1080p or a constant 60 FPS. The newer Xbox One S and PS4K models support 4K output, but not all games are rendered natively at that resolution.
